Plot Evaluation:
Overall I think the filmmaker did a great job of converting The Giver book to the movie. They did make some changes to make it a better movie and to make it a movie that people would really want to watch. Some of the changes made include jobs, a Relationship between Jonas and Fiona and an advance in technology. I think these changes were made to hook people into the movie and to make people want to watch the movie so they could make more money off the movie. Another possibility is they changed certain things to make the plot run smoother. Even though some changes were made I still think they did a great job.
Character Development Evaluation:
Taking The Giver book to the movie and making the changes they did with the characters was done for the better of the movie. The changes made with the jobs were made to go along with the advance in technology. The Relationship between Jonas and Fiona was made to hook the moviegoers into the movie and to make it more of a modern movie. The character development in the movie follow the book closely but there were some changes made. Some of the changes made include Jonas's mother and her attitude or view on things throughout the book. Another change that was made was Asher , instead of him being close to Jonas and Fiona like he is in the book he separates himself from them and even avoids them. I think they developed the characters to the plot of the movie very well.
Theme Evaluation:
Most of the themes in The Giver book are the same as in the movie. Some of the themes that are the same are the concepts of memories and the concept of release. In both the book and the movie Jonas receives memories of the community from The Giver. The memories he receives vary, some involve pain but some involve happiness, but they all are the true memories of the community. The concept of release is also a very big theme in The Giver. It is a strong theme. In The Giver everyone thought that release to Elsewhere meant they would leave The Community and be taken to the Community of Elsewhere. Jonas does not know what it actually means until he watches the release of the smallest twin. It stuns Jonas that release means you get a lethal injection that kills you then the body gets disposed of. Overall I think the filmmaker did a great job of transferring themes from the book to the movie and making them fit into the movie at the right spots.
